Banksy

I have discovered this amazing artist that I am sure other people have heard of and already love - but I am just hearing about him now.

He is an elusive graffiti artist; somehow no one knows who he is or how he creates his giant amazing works of art. But he has been doing this for years.

A friend at Lush told me about him - so I did a little digging on the ol' interwebs... turns out he works mostly in the UK, he does not endorse the selling of reproductions of his paintings, there have been very few works that have been sold at auctions by him. He doesn't do gallery works - although one time it is rumored that he walked into the Louvre with his rendition of the Mona Lisa and hung it up next to the original. I am not really sure I buy that one... but it sounds like a great story.

Here are some of my favs that I have found so far:

I would love to be able to see some of his work in person. Alas... it seems like I would have to be in England and pretty lucky. There is a place in NYC called 5pointz that is an entire city block of warehouses that is dedicated to graffiti artists. I think I might have to make a trip there in a few weeks. Maybe I will find something just as amazing there. :)

Somebody's getting married....

No, its not me. Unfortunately. I am still holding out for John Legend - he has a lot going on right now, he is recording, touring, writing songs, starting a record label.... it's really hard for him to shop for an engagement ring for me. I am really understanding about this things. :)

Seriously, my sister and BP are finally going to make this thing legal. It's about time - I mean they have only been living in sin for over a year and half. They have a 30 year mortgage together - so they are kind in this for the long haul with or with out a ring.

So now comes the exciting part! The party planning part, the dress shopping part and all that good stuff.

So here is the thing - did you know that Lisa is not going to be MY sister in law. She is only going to be sarah's. Lisa is technically not going to be my 'relative' at all. Well I think that is bull! I mean, it is so much easier to introduce her as sister in law, rather than my sister's husband's sister.

AGH!! I just said sister's HUSBAND. that's is totally weird.

The Master Cleanse...

sounds scary, doesn't it? For some reason this phrase: the master cleanse... has been floating around my world for the past 3 or 4 weeks. First Lindsay's boyfriend was looking into, the Christiana started it, the Lindsay was telling me about her mom who does the cleanse 4 times a year, and finally Nikki embarks on her cleaning path tomorrow.

Why all the sudden urge to clean? It's not even spring yet.

I get it though. I was reading last night about Ayurvedic body types and their cravings and they deal with food. The author had one sentence that rings true - we harbor undigested emotion. Unresolved emotions (ama) can build up, slowing down your digestion and metabolism. Hmm... this would lend itself to the thinking that we need to detox out the emotions and buildup every now and again, right?

It just sounds so extreme and scary, not to mention a little icky.

One thing that intrigues me about the cleanse is - that it might reset one's cravings or tastes slightly. If you go for a certain amount of time with out a diet coke or a glass of wine... then you realize that you don't actually need it, correct?

Hmmm.... food (or lemon water and cayanne) for thought.

Do TV Writers Think We Are Stupid??

Ok... why do tv shows do this?? They think we don't listen? We don't pay attention to the details of their show? That we are just watching it for no reason?

I THINK NOT!

I pay attention, I listen, I follow plot lines, I actually like most of the characters.

So why do I get treated as though I am idiot?

This rant is all spawned by Ally McBeal. I just started season 5 today and I recently finished season 4. The second to last episode of season 4, Ally turned 28 (see previous blog post!), now at the beginning of season 5, Ally announces that she is 31.

Also, characters just vanish. Last season, Taye Diggs was a lawyer at the firm, in love with Ling. At the beginning of season 5... he is nowhere to be seen and he hasn't been spoken of.

I wish the writers and producers would realize this.

Blog Assignment #2 - the socially stupid

Blog Assignment #2: Otherwise Smart Women Who Are Socially Stupid: a stream of conscious

Ladies... listen to me. I know that you are smart. Most of the people I know are college educated, talented, and lovely. The only problem is that they seem to be socially stunted. It is like they forget how to be a normal person in society in the quest for finding out who they are meant to be. People are so wrapped up in themselves to remember how to be civil.

Some tips to the ladies (or anyone for that matter):
*In a conversation with anyone - make sure to remember who you are talking to. Get their name!!! Especially if it is a cute boy who is flirting with you.
*It takes two extra seconds to say thank you and please... why not try it?
*Store clerks and waiters are actually human. They are not robots that just happen to work a register.
*Just because you get married does not mean that single ladies have leprosy.
*Speaking of weddings, try not to make us hate you on your wedding day. We want this day to be great for you as well, but the crazier you act before the day... the less we care.
*Girls, watch your liquor... a sloppy drunk is not a cute drunk at all. Other girls will hate on you and guys will just think you are easy. Bad combo if you ask me.
*Take a look in the mirror before leaving the house... you don't have to dress designer, just dress for the season, your age and your body type. It's just that simple.
*Facebook friendships are not the same as real friendships - real friendships include seeing me in person, going out every now and again, calling to chat...

Alright, that is enough of a lecture for today. So go forth, be better, be nice, be socially acceptable.
Love ya, mean it!
